Why Quitting Can be the Best Thing for You

What about grinding it through and finishing it to the end? What about the contributions made to myself and others? What are people going to think of me?

That was my internal dialogue for a long time (still is at times). I recently went to the gym to complete a 1000 rep challenge- I bring on the pain lol- and I had not properly nourished my body at ALL that day. Mid-way through, the nausea and dizziness settled and I was in the bathroom asking God for mercy. I then went out again to finish but felt the nausea came back- I quit then and there. I listened to myself.

I felt DEFEATED. But it was NECESSARY for my health and well being.

Hard but Necessary

We often suffer from sunk cost fallacy, which says that it’s difficult for someone to quit after investing time, money, or energy into something you have “sunk” into. It’s enduring an activity that you know no longer suits your needs, or interests, or adds any value to your life. It can be difficult to release an idea that you thought was right for you, but it’s a chain holding you back from what could be nourishing you.

CREATE

I’ve learned that we shouldn’t, by any means, try to plan out life because life will laugh in your face. The amount of paths, hardships, rainbows, and beauty we will experience is insurmountable and never ending. You can’t control life, but you can control what you give your attention to. That is why quitting is so important.

It’s a battle between the ego and yourself to feel as though you need to push through. If you can quit when you realize you are no longer gaining value, then you can focus your attention elsewhere to CREATE instead of DRAIN. Doctor Joe Dispenza explains this perfectly in his book Becoming Supernatural. Throughout the book, he talks about focusing your thoughts and emotions to the life you want. If you can FEEL before the event has happened, you will attract it. FEEL the wealth, and watch the money flow. FEEL the abundance and see the opportunities arise. It’s a formula as simple as this: thoughts/emotions + active faith.

Thoughts/Emotions -> these control your past, current, and future realities

Active Faith-> taking action KNOWING and EXPECTING the right result to follow

Be Brave

Quitting is BRAVE- in the right situations.

A perfect example is someone quitting a job that is soul-sucking, to move to a new place and try for a new life. THAT is courageous and can lead to the unknown possibilities of awesomeness. On the other hand, you have someone who has lived their life fearful of money only to end up at a job that is demeaning in fear of losing everything. If you told that guy to quit, he would tell you that he had gotten a major in college for this, worked up the corporate ladder, and has a retirement plan waiting for him when he retires. In 25 years. Yeah, I think I’ll pass on that.

When you can quit and let go of what is draining your energy daily, you will have more energy to CREATE. Creating your dream life comes with shifting your attention of what matters to you. What matters to you may change frequently. And that’s OKAY. It’s actually completely normal. According to the editorial team for APOLLO TECH, most people will go through an average of 12 jobs during their lifetime!

I’m also going to let you in on a little life hack I’ve learned- everyone is winging it. Nobody is above anyone else. We are all trying to live a life of security, peace, and connection. Also, please don’t try and plan your life. You can have morals and ideas on how you want to live, but the details will be figured out in due time. There is no need to worry because worrying is like praying for that very thing to happen.

This is your sign to quit that very thing that’s been holding you back, whether it’s a job, relationship, bad habit, etc., life gets so much better when you can go with your gut and feel the way through instead of clawing your way through life.

What’s something you have quit in your life that propelled you forward?
